Musnad Ahmad 430:21

'Affan narrated to us, he said: Thabit ibn Yazid Abu Zayd narrated to me, he said: 'Asim al-Ahwal narrated to us, from Fudayl ibn Zayd al-Raqashi—and he had participated in seven military expeditions during the leadership of 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him—that he came to 'Abdullah ibn Mughaffal and said: "Inform me of what has been forbidden for us regarding this drink." He said: "Wine (al-khamr)." He said: "This is in the Qur'an." He said: "Shall I not tell you what I heard from Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace?" He began with the name or the message. He said: "Is it sufficient for me to relate?" He said: "He forbade the *duba'* (gourd), the *hantam* (earthenware jar), the *naqir* (hollowed-out log), and the *muqayyar* (pitch-coated vessel)." He said: "And what is the *hantam*?" He said: "The green and the white." He said: "What is the *muqayyar*?" He said: "That which has been smeared with pitch (tar) from a waterskin or otherwise." He said: "So I went off to the market and bought a skin (made of tanned hide), and it remained hanging in my house."
