Musnad Ahmad 834:22

Muhammad ibn Ja‘far narrated to us, Kahmas narrated to us, Ibn Buraydah narrated to me, from Ibn Mughaffal, who said: He saw a man among his companions throwing pebbles (using his fingers). He said: "Do not throw pebbles, for the Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, used to dislike throwing pebbles," or he said, "He used to forbid it"—Kahmas says that—"for it does not injure an enemy, nor does it hunt game, but it gouges out the eye and breaks the tooth." Then he saw him after that throwing pebbles, so he said: "I inform you that the Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, used to forbid throwing pebbles, or dislike it, and then I see you throwing pebbles? I will not speak to you for such and such a time."
