Musnad Ahmad 834:38

Sulayman ibn Dawud narrated to us, Thabit Abu Zayd narrated to us, ‘Asim al-Ahwal narrated to us, Fudayl ibn Zayd al-Raqashi narrated to me—‘Abd al-Samad said in his hadith: from Fudayl ibn Zayd, and he had campaigned with ‘Umar seven campaigns—he said: I asked ‘Abd Allah ibn Mughaffal al-Muzani: "What was forbidden to us regarding drink?" He said: "The *khamr* (intoxicant)." I said: "Is this in the Qur’an?" He said: "I will not tell you except what I heard from Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah—or the Messenger of Allah, Muhammad—" (he said: either he began with the messengership or he began with the name). I said: "My law, I am satisfied." He said: "He forbade the *hantam*, which is the green jar; and he forbade the *duba’*, which is the gourd; and he forbade the *muzaffat*, which is that which has been smeared with pitch from a waterskin or otherwise; and he forbade the *naqir* (hollowed-out log)." He said: "When I heard that, I bought a skin, and it is there hanging, being used for *nabidh* (steeping)."
