Hadith of Abdullah bin Salam (RA)
Hadith 1098:11
Hassan ibn Musa and Affan narrated to us, they said: Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Asim ibn Bahdalah, from al-Musayyib ibn Rafi, from Kharashah ibn al-Hurr, who said: I arrived in Medina and sat with a group of elders in the Mosque of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. Then an old man came, leaning on a staff of his. The people said: "Whoever is pleased to look at a man from the people of Paradise, let him look at this one." He stood behind a pillar and prayed two rak'ahs. I stood up to him and said: "Some of the people said such and such." He said: "Paradise belongs to Allah, the Almighty and Majestic; He admits into it whom He wills. I saw a vision during the time of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. I saw as if a man came to me and said: 'Come.' So I went with him, and he led me along a great path. A road appeared to me on my left, and I wanted to take it, but he said: 'You are not of its people.' Then a road appeared to me on my right, and I took it until I reached a slippery mountain. He took my hand and pushed me, and suddenly I was at its peak. I could not steady myself or hold on. Then there was an iron pillar at its peak with a ring of gold. He took my hand and pushed me until I grabbed the handle. He said: 'Hold on.' I said: 'Yes.' He kicked the pillar, and I held fast to the handle." I narrated this to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and he said: "You have seen something good. As for the great path, it is the place of gathering (al-Mahshar). As for the road that appeared to your left, it is the path of the people of the Fire, and you are not of its people. As for the road that appeared to your right, it is the path of the people of Paradise. As for the slippery mountain, it is the station of the martyrs. As for the handle you held onto, it is the handle of Islam, so hold fast to it until you die." He said: "And I hope that I am one of the people of Paradise." He said: "And he was Abdullah ibn Salam."
