Hadith of Abdullah bin Zaid bin Abd Rabbihi (RA), the companion of the Adhan, from the Prophet (SAW)
حديث عبد الله بن زيد بن عبد ربه صاحب الأذان (1) عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم
Hadith 330:5
Ya'qub narrated to us, he said: My father narrated to me, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, he said: Muhammad ibn Ibrahim ibn al-Harith al-Taymi narrated to me, from Muhammad ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Zayd ibn 'Abd Rabbihi, he said: 'Abd Allah ibn Zayd narrated to me, he said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered the *naqus* (bell) to be struck for the people to gather for prayer, a man carrying a *naqus* in his hand circled around me while I was sleeping. I said to him: "O servant of Allah, will you sell the *naqus*?" He said: "What will you do with it?" I said: "We will call to prayer with it." He said: "Shall I not guide you to that which is better than that?" I said to him: "Yes." He said: "You say: *Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar; Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah, Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah; Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasul Allah, Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasul Allah; Hayya 'ala al-salah, Hayya 'ala al-salah; Hayya 'ala al-falah, Hayya 'ala al-falah; Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar; La ilaha illa Allah*." Then he stepped back a short distance and said: "You say when the prayer is established: *Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar; Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah; Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasul Allah; Hayya 'ala al-salah; Hayya 'ala al-falah; Qad qamat al-salah, Qad qamat al-salah; Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar; La ilaha illa Allah*." When I reached the morning, I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and informed him of what I had seen. He said: "It is a true vision, if Allah wills. Stand with Bilal and dictate to him what you saw, so that he may call the *adhan* with it, for he has a louder voice than you." He said: So I stood with Bilal and began to dictate it to him, and he called the *adhan* with it. He said: 'Umar ibn al-Khattab heard that while he was in his house, so he came out dragging his garment, saying: "By the One who sent you with the truth, I have seen the like of what was shown." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "To Allah belongs the praise."
حدثنا يعقوب، قال: حدثني أبي، عن محمد بن إسحاق قال: حدثني محمد بن إبراهيم بن الحارث التيمي، عن محمد بن عبد الله بن زيد بن عبد ربه قال: حدثني عبد الله بن زيد، قال: لما أمر رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم بالناقوس ليضرب به للناس في الجمع للصلاة طاف بي وأنا نائم رجل يحمل ناقوسا في يده، فقلت له: يا عبد الله أتبيع الناقوس؟ قال: ما تصنع به؟ قال: فقلت: ندعو به إلى الصلاة، قال: أفلا أدلك على ما هو خير من ذلك؟ قال: فقلت له: بلى، قال: تقول الله أكبر الله أكبر، الله أكبر الله أكبر، أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله، أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله، أشهد أن محمدا رسول الله، أشهد أن محمدا رسول الله، حي على الصلاة، حي على الصلاة، حي على الفلاح، حي على الفلاح، الله أكبر الله أكبر، لا إله إلا الله، ثم استأخر غير بعيد ثم قال: تقول: إذا أقيمت الصلاة، الله أكبر الله أكبر، أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله، أشهد أن محمدا رسول الله، حي على الصلاة، حي على الفلاح، قد قامت الصلاة، قد قامت الصلاة، الله أكبر الله أكبر، لا إله إلا الله، فلما أصبحت أتيت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فأخبرته بما رأيت، فقال: " إنها لرؤيا حق إن شاء الله، فقم مع بلال فألق عليه ما رأيت فليؤذن به، فإنه أندى صوتا منك "، قال: فقمت مع بلال فجعلت ألقيه عليه ويؤذن به، قال: فسمع بذلك عمر بن الخطاب وهو في بيته فخرج يجر رداءه يقول: والذي بعثك بالحق، لقد رأيت مثل الذي أري، قال: فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: " فلله الحمد "
