Musnad Ahmad 329:41

'Affan narrated to us, he said: Wuhayb narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Yahya narrated to us, from 'Abbad ibn Tamim, from 'Abdullah ibn Zayd ibn 'Asim, who said: When Allah granted to His Messenger on the day of Hunayn what He granted, he distributed among the people and those whose hearts are to be reconciled, and he did not distribute or give the Ansar anything. It was as if they felt slighted because they did not receive what the people received. So he addressed them and said: "O assembly of Ansar, did I not find you astray, then Allah guided you through me? And you were divided, then Allah united you through me? And poor, then Allah enriched you through me?" He said: Every time he said something, they said: "Allah and His Messenger are more bountiful." He said: "What prevents you from answering me?" They said: "Allah and His Messenger are more bountiful." He said: "If you wished, you could have said: 'You came to us as such and such.' Are you not pleased that the people go away with sheep and camels, while you go away with the Messenger of Allah to your dwellings?" "Were it not for the Hijrah, I would have been a man from the Ansar. If the people traveled through a valley or a mountain pass, I would travel through the valley and mountain pass of the Ansar. The Ansar are the inner garment, and the people are the outer garment. You will surely encounter selfishness after me, so be patient until you meet me at the Basin."
