Musnad Ahmad 930:13

'Abdullah narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ya'qub al-Rubali narrated to us, al-Mu'tamir ibn Sulayman narrated to us, I heard my father narrating from al-Rabi' ibn Anas, from Rafi' Abu al-'Aliyah, from Ubayy ibn Ka'b, regarding the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: "And when your Lord took from the children of Adam—from their loins—their descendants and made them testify of themselves" [al-A'raf: 172], he said: "He gathered them and made them spirits, then He fashioned them and made them speak, so they spoke. Then He took from them the covenant and the pledge, and made them testify of themselves: 'Am I not your Lord?' He said: 'I call the seven heavens and the seven earths to witness against you, and I call your father Adam to witness against you, lest you say on the Day of Resurrection: We were unaware of this. Know that there is no god other than Me, and no lord other than Me, so do not associate anything with Me. I will send to you My messengers to remind you of My covenant and My pledge, and I will send down to you My books.' They said: 'We testify that You are our Lord and our God; there is no lord for us other than You, and no god for us other than You.' So they affirmed that. Adam was raised up and looked at them, and he saw the rich and the poor, the beautiful in form and those less than that. He said: 'My Lord, if only You had made Your servants equal!' He said: 'I have loved that I should be thanked.' He saw the prophets among them like lamps, upon them was light. They were singled out with another covenant regarding the message and prophethood, which is His saying, the Exalted: 'And when We took from the prophets their covenant' [al-Ahzab: 7], up to His saying: '...Jesus, son of Mary' [al-Ahzab: 7]. He was among those spirits, then He sent him to Mary." And he narrated from Ubayy: "That he [the spirit of Jesus] entered through her mouth."
