Musnad Ahmad 1301:8

Ya'qub narrated to us, he said: My father narrated to us, from his father, he said: A brother of 'Adi ibn Artah narrated to me, from a man, from Abu al-Darda', who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) enjoined upon us: "Verily, the thing I fear most for you is the misguided leaders." 27486 - Haytham ibn Kharijah narrated to us, he said: Abu al-Rabi' Sulayman ibn 'Utbah al-Sulami narrated to us, from Yunus ibn Maysarah ibn Halbas, from Abu Idris, from Abu al-Darda', from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), who said: "If you were to be forgiven for what you do to the beasts, you would be forgiven for much." 27487 - Haytham narrated to us—and I heard it from Haytham—he said: Abu al-Rabi' informed us, from Yunus, from Abu Idris, from Abu al-Darda', who said: They said: O Messenger of Allah, do you see what we do, is it a matter that has already been finished, or is it something we are initiating? He said: "Rather, it is a matter that has already been finished." They said: Then what is the point of action, O Messenger of Allah? He said: "Every person is facilitated for that which he was created for." 27488 - Haytham narrated to us—and I heard it from him—he said: Abu al-Rabi' narrated to us, from Yunus, from Abu Idris, from Abu al-Darda', from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), who said: "Allah created Adam when He created him, then He struck his right shoulder and brought forth a white progeny, as if they were ants. And He struck his left shoulder and brought forth a black progeny, as if they were charcoal. Then He said to those in His right hand: To Paradise, and I do not care. And He said to those in His left hand: To the Fire, and I do not care." 27489 - Haytham narrated to us, he said: Abu al-Rabi' informed us, from Yunus, from Abu Idris, from Abu al-Darda', from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), who said: "Verily, Allah the Exalted will say on the Day of Resurrection to Adam: 'Rise and prepare from your progeny nine hundred and ninety-nine for the Fire, and one for Paradise.'" His companions wept, and they wept. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to them: "Raise your heads, for by the One in Whose hand is my soul, my nation among the nations is only like a white hair on the hide of a black bull." So that lightened it for them. 27490 - Haytham narrated to us, he said: Abu al-Rabi' narrated to us, from Yunus, from Abu Idris, from Abu al-Darda', from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), who said: "For everything there is a reality, and a servant will not reach the reality of faith until he knows that what has struck him could not have missed him, and what has missed him could not have struck him." Abu 'Abd al-Rahman said: Haytham ibn Kharijah narrated to me from Abu al-Rabi' all of these hadiths, except that he made the hadith "If you were to be forgiven for what you do to the beasts" mawquf (attributed to the Companion), whereas my father narrated it to us from him as marfu' (attributed to the Prophet).
