Musnad Ahmad 1060:10

Zakariya ibn ‘Adi narrated to us, Baqiyyah informed us, from Buhayr ibn Sa‘d, from Khalid ibn Ma‘dan, from Jubayr ibn Nufayr, from Abu Ayyub, who said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) arrived in Medina, the Ansar drew lots as to who would host the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and Abu Ayyub won the lot. So, he hosted the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Whenever food was gifted to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), it would be gifted to Abu Ayyub. He said: Abu Ayyub entered one day and there was a bowl containing onions. He said: "What is this?" They said: "The Messenger of Allah sent it." He said: So Abu Ayyub went up to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, what prevented you from this bowl?" He said: "I saw onions in it." He said: "And are onions not lawful for us?" He said: "Yes, so eat them, but I am visited by that which you are not visited by." Haywah said: "Indeed, I am visited by that which you are not visited by."
