Hadith of Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (RA)
Hadith 1060:29
Muhammad ibn Ubayd narrated to us, Wasil al-Raqashi narrated to us, from Abu Surah, from Abu Ayyub: That the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to, when food was brought to him, partake of it as much as Allah willed for him to partake, then he would send the remainder to Abu Ayyub, and in it would be the trace of his hand. Then food was brought to him in which there was garlic, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not eat anything from it, and he sent it to Abu Ayyub. His family said to him [about it], so he said: "Bring it near to me, for I have need of it." When he did not see the trace of the hand of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in it, he withheld his hand from it. He came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: "O Prophet of Allah, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you, this food—you did not eat from it, should I eat from it?" He said: "In it is that garlic, and Gabriel seeks permission to enter upon me." He said: "Then shall I eat from it, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Yes, so eat."
