Hadith of Abu Bakrah Nufay' bin al-Harith bin Kaladah (RA)

Hadith 830:130

'Affan narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, 'Ali ibn Zayd informed us, from 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Bakrah, who said: We arrived with Ziyad to Mu'awiyah ibn Abi Sufyan, and among us was Abu Bakrah. When we came to him, he was not impressed by any delegation as he was impressed by us. He said: "O Abu Bakrah, narrate to us something you heard from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace." He said: "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to like good dreams and ask about them. One day he said: 'Which of you has seen a dream?' A man said: 'I saw as if a scale was lowered from the sky, and you were weighed against Abu Bakr, and you outweighed Abu Bakr. Then Abu Bakr was weighed against 'Umar, and Abu Bakr outweighed 'Umar. Then 'Umar was weighed against 'Uthman, and 'Umar outweighed 'Uthman. Then the scale was raised.' He [the Prophet] was displeased by that." Hammad also said: "It saddened him." Then he said: "Prophetic Caliphate, then Allah gives the kingdom to whom He wills." He said: So he pushed us in our necks and expelled us. Ziyad said: "May you have no father! Could you not find a hadith other than this? Narrate to him something else." He said: "No, by Allah, I will not narrate to him anything but this until I part from him." So he left us. Then he called for us and said: "O Abu Bakrah, narrate to us something you heard from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace." He said: So he struck him with it [the same hadith]. He pushed us in our necks and expelled us. Ziyad said: "May you have no father! Could you not find a hadith other than this? Narrate to him something else." He said: "No, by Allah, I will not narrate to him anything but it until I part from him." He said: Then he left us for days, then he called for us and said: "O Abu Bakrah, narrate to us something you heard from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace." He said: So he struck him with it. Mu'awiyah said: "Are you saying 'kingdom'? We have become content with the kingdom." 'Abd al-Rahman said: I found these hadiths in my father's book in his own handwriting.
