And with his chain of narration, and Abd al-Rahman said: We arrived to Mu'awiyah to offer condolences with Ziyad, and Abu Bakrah was with us. When we arrived, he was not impressed by any delegation as he was impressed by us. He said: "O Abu Bakrah, narrate to us something you heard from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace." He said: "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to like good dreams and ask about them. One day he said: 'Which of you has seen a dream?' A man from the people said: 'I saw a scale lowered from the sky, and you and Abu Bakr were weighed in it, and you outweighed Abu Bakr. Then Abu Bakr and Umar were weighed in it, and Abu Bakr outweighed Umar. Then Umar and Uthman were weighed in it, and Umar outweighed Uthman. Then the scale was raised.' The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, interpreted it—meaning he explained its meaning—and said: 'Prophetic Caliphate, then Allah gives the kingdom to whom He wills.'" He said: So he pushed us in our necks and drove us out. When the next day came, we returned, and he said: "O Abu Bakrah, narrate to us something you heard from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace." He said: So he repeated it to him, and he pushed us in our necks. When the third day came, we returned, and he asked him again. He said: So he repeated it to him. Mu'awiyah said: "You are saying that we are kings? We have become content with the kingdom."
