Musnad Ahmad 789:21

'Affan narrated to us, Hammad bin Salamah narrated to us, from Thabit, from Kinanah bin Nu'aym al-'Adawi, from Abu Barzah al-Aslami, that Julaybib was a man who used to enter upon women; he would pass by them and joke with them. So I said to my wife: "Do not let Julaybib enter upon you, for if he enters upon you, I will do such and such, and I will do such and such." He said: The Ansar, when one of them had an unmarried woman, would not marry her off until they knew whether the Prophet (ﷺ) had a need for her or not. So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to a man from the Ansar: "Marry your daughter to me." He said: "Yes, and it is an honor, O Messenger of Allah, and a delight to my eyes." He said: "I do not want her for myself." He said: "Then for whom, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "For Julaybib." He said: So he said: "O Messenger of Allah, I will consult her mother." So he came to her mother and said: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) is asking for your daughter's hand." She said: "Yes, and it is a delight to my eyes." He said: "He is not asking for her for himself; he is asking for her for Julaybib." She said: "Julaybib? Julaybib? Julaybib? No, by the life of Allah, we will not marry her to him." When he was about to stand up to go to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) to inform him of what her mother had said, the young woman said: "Who has asked for my hand from you?" Her mother informed her, and she said: "Are you rejecting the command of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)? Give me to him, for he will not let me go to ruin." So her father went to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and informed him. He said: "It is your affair with her," and he married her to Julaybib. He said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) went out on a military expedition of his. He said: When Allah granted him spoils, he said to his companions: "Do you miss anyone?" They said: "We miss such and such, and we miss such and such." He said: "Look, do you miss anyone?" They said: "No." He said: "But I miss Julaybib." He said: "Search for him among the slain." He said: They searched for him and found him beside seven [men] whom he had killed, then they killed him. They said: "O Messenger of Allah, here he is, beside seven whom he had killed, then they killed him." The Prophet (ﷺ) came to him and stood over him and said: "He killed seven and they killed him. This one is of me and I am of him. This one is of me and I am of him," two or three times. Then the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) placed him on his forearms, and he dug for him—he had no bed except the forearms of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)—then he placed him in his grave, and it was not mentioned that he washed him. Thabit said: There was no unmarried woman among the Ansar who was more sought after than her. Ishaq bin 'Abdullah bin Abi Talhah narrated to Thabit, saying: "Do you know what the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prayed for her?" He said: "O Allah, pour goodness upon her in abundance, and do not make her life a struggle." He said: So there was no unmarried woman among the Ansar who was more sought after than her. Abu 'Abd al-Rahman said: No one in the world narrated it except Hammad bin Salamah. How excellent a hadith it is!
