Musnad Ahmad 789:47

'Abd al-Samad narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, Thabit narrated to us, from Kinanah ibn Nu'aym, from Abu Barzah, that Julaybib was among the Ansar. When any of the companions of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, had an unmarried woman, he would not marry her off until he knew whether the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, had a need for her or not. One day, the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to a man from the Ansar: "Marry your daughter to me." He said: "Yes, and with pleasure." He said to him: "I do not want her for myself." He said: "Then for whom?" He said: "For Julaybib." He said: "I will consult her mother." He went to her and said: "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, is asking for your daughter's hand." She said: "Yes, and with pleasure; the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, shall marry her." He said: "He does not want her for himself." She said: "Then for whom?" He said: "For Julaybib." She said: "Woe to me! Julaybib? A man like Julaybib?"—twice—"No, by Allah, I will not marry her to Julaybib." When her father stood up to go to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, the young woman said to her mother from behind her curtain: "Who has asked for my hand from you both?" She said: "The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace." She said: "Would you reject the command of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace? Give me to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, for he will not let me go to ruin." Her father went to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and said: "She is yours." So he married her to Julaybib. While the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was on a military expedition of his, and Allah had granted him spoils, the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "Do you miss anyone?" They said: "We miss so-and-so, and we miss so-and-so." The Prophet said: "But I miss Julaybib. Look for him among the slain." They looked for him and found him beside seven men whom he had killed, and then they had killed him. He said: "The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, stood and said: 'He killed seven, then they killed him. This one is of me, and I am of him.'" Then the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, carried him on his forearms—he had no bier other than the forearms of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace—until he dug a grave for him, then placed him in his niche. He did not mention washing him.
