Hadith 940:35
Husayn ibn Muhammad narrated to us, Sharik narrated to us, from ‘Ata’, from Abu ‘Abd al-Rahman al-Sulami, who said: A man came to Abu al-Darda’ and said: "My wife is my cousin and I love her, but my mother commands me to divorce her." Abu al-Darda’ said: "I do not command you to divorce her, nor do I command you to disobey your mother. However, I will tell you a hadith I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: 'Indeed, the mother is the middle gate of Paradise.' So if you wish, keep her, and if you wish, leave her."
حدثنا حسين بن محمد، حدثنا شريك، عن عطاء، عن أبي عبد الرحمن السلمي، قال: أتى رجل أبا الدرداء، فقال: إن امرأتي بنت عمي وأنا أحبها، وإن والدتي تأمرني أن أطلقها، فقال: لا آمرك أن تطلقها، ولا آمرك أن تعصي والدتك، ولكن أحدثك حديثا سمعته من رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول: " إن الوالدة أوسط أبواب الجنة " فإن شئت فأمسك وإن شئت فدع
