Hadith of Abu Humayd al-Sa‘idi (RA)

Hadith 1061:7

'Affan narrated to us, Wuhayb ibn Khalid narrated to us, 'Amr ibn Yahya narrated to us, from al-'Abbas ibn Sahl ibn Sa'd al-Sa'idi, from Abu Humayd al-Sa'idi, who said: We went out with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, in the year of Tabuk until we came to Wadi al-Qura. There was a woman in a garden of hers, and the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to his companions: "Estimate [the yield]." The people estimated, and the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, estimated ten wasqs. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to the woman: "Keep count of what comes out of it until I return to you, if Allah wills." He said: He went out until he arrived at Tabuk. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "A severe wind will blow upon you tonight, so let no man among you stand up in it. Whoever has a camel, let him fasten its hobble." Abu Humayd said: We fastened them. When night came, a severe wind blew upon us, and a man stood up in it, and it threw him into the mountains of Tayy'. Then the King of Ayla came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and gifted the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, a white mule. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, clothed him in a mantle and wrote for him regarding his sea. He said: Then he set out, and we set out with him until we came to Wadi al-Qura. He said to the woman: "How much is your garden?" She said: "Ten wasqs," which was what the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, had estimated. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "I am in a hurry, so whoever among you wishes to hasten, let him do so." He said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, went out, and we went out with him until, when he reached Medina, he said: "This is Taba." When he saw Uhud, he said: "This is Uhud, it loves us and we love it." "Shall I not inform you of the best of the houses of the Ansar?" He said: We said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "The best of the houses of the Ansar are the Banu al-Najjar, then the house of Banu 'Abd al-Ashhal, then the house of Banu Sa'idah, and then in every house of the Ansar there is good."
