Musnad Ahmad 1030:1

Hafs ibn Ghiyath narrated to us, Dawud ibn Abi Hind narrated to us, from al-Sha’bi, from Abu Jubayrah ibn al-Dahhak al-Ansari, from some of his paternal uncles, who said: The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, arrived, and there was not one of us who did not have one or two nicknames. He said: So when he would call a man by his nickname, we would say: "O Messenger of Allah, this person dislikes this." He said: Then it was revealed: {And do not call one another by [offensive] nicknames} [Al-Hujurat: 11].
