Hadith of Abu Malik al-Ash'ari (RA)

Hadith 1015:14

Abu al-Nadr narrated to us, Abd al-Hamid ibn Bahram al-Fazari narrated to us, from Shahr ibn Hawshab, Abd al-Rahman ibn Ghanam narrated to us, that Abu Malik al-Ash'ari gathered his people and said: "O company of Ash'aris, gather together and gather your women and your children, so that I may teach you the prayer of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, which he prayed for us in Medina." So they gathered, and they gathered their women and their children. He performed ablution and showed them how he performed ablution, and he enumerated the ablution to its places. Then, when the shadow had shifted and the shade had broken, he stood up and gave the call to prayer (Adhan). He arranged the men in the front row, arranged the children behind them, and arranged the women behind the children. Then he performed the Iqamah for the prayer, stepped forward, raised his hands, and said the Takbir. He recited the Opening of the Book (Al-Fatihah) and a Surah, reciting them quietly. Then he said the Takbir and bowed, saying: "Subhan Allah wa bi-hamdihi" (Glory be to Allah and by His praise) three times. Then he said: "Sami' Allahu liman hamidah" (Allah hears those who praise Him), and stood upright. Then he said the Takbir and fell into prostration. Then he said the Takbir and raised his head, then said the Takbir and prostrated. Then he said the Takbir and rose to a standing position. His Takbirs in the first Rak'ah were six Takbirs. He said the Takbir when he stood up for the second Rak'ah. When he finished his prayer, he turned his face toward his people and said: "Memorize my Takbirs, and learn my bowing and my prostration, for it is the prayer of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, which he used to pray for us at this time of the day." Then, when the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, finished his prayer, he turned his face toward the people and said: "O people, listen and understand, and know that Allah has servants who are neither prophets nor martyrs, whom the prophets and martyrs envy for their seats and their closeness to Allah." A man from the Bedouins knelt from the edge of the people, gestured with his hand toward the Prophet of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and said: "O Prophet of Allah, people who are neither prophets nor martyrs, whom the prophets and martyrs envy for their seats and their closeness to Allah—describe them to us, explain them to us," meaning: describe their appearance to us. The face of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, brightened at the question of the Bedouin, and the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "They are people from the fringes of the people and the scattered tribes, between whom there are no close ties of kinship. They loved one another for the sake of Allah and were sincere to one another. Allah will place for them on the Day of Resurrection pulpits of light, and He will seat them upon them, and He will make their faces light and their garments light. The people will be terrified on the Day of Resurrection, but they will not be terrified. They are the allies (Awliya) of Allah, upon whom there is no fear, nor shall they grieve."
