Hadith of Abu Malik Sahl bin Sa'd al-Sa'idi (RA)

Hadith 1013:30

Surayj ibn al-Nu‘man narrated to us, Ibn Abi Hazim narrated to us, he said: My father informed me, from Sahl ibn Sa‘d al-Sa‘idi, that a woman came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, with a woven mantle (burdah) that had its borders. Sahl said: Do you know what the mantle is? They said: Yes, it is the wrap (shamlah). He said: Yes. She said: O Messenger of Allah, I wove this with my own hands, and I have brought it to clothe you with it. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, took it, being in need of it, and he came out to us while it was his lower garment. Then a certain man—he named him—touched it and said: How beautiful this mantle is! Clothe me with it, O Messenger of Allah. He said: "Yes." When he went in, he folded it and sent it to him. The people said to him: By Allah, you have not done well; the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, clothed himself with it while he was in need of it, then you asked him for it, and you knew that he does not turn away a requester. He said: By Allah, I did not ask him for it to wear it, but I asked him for it so that it might be my shroud on the day I die. Sahl said: So it was his shroud on the day he died. *** Harun ibn Ma‘ruf narrated to us—and I heard it from Harun ibn Ma‘ruf—Ibn Wahb informed us, Abu Sakhr narrated to me, that Abu Hazim narrated to him, he said: I heard Sahl ibn Sa‘d saying: I witnessed a gathering of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, in which he described Paradise until he finished. Then he said at the end of his speech: "In it is that which no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and has not occurred to the heart of any human." Then he recited this verse: {Their sides forsake their beds, to invoke their Lord in fear and hope, and they spend out of what We have bestowed on them. No person knows what is kept hidden for them of joy as a reward for what they used to do} [As-Sajdah: 16-17].
