Musnad Ahmad 1013:4

Sufyan narrated to us, from Abu Hazim, from Sahl: "With what was the wound of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) treated?" He said: "Ali would come with water in his shield, and Fatimah would wash the blood from his face. Then she took a mat, burned it, and stuffed his wound with it."
