Musnad Ahmad 980:17

Mu'awiyah ibn Hisham narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Habib ibn Abi Thabit, from al-Qasim ibn al-Harith, from 'Ubayd Allah ibn 'Abd Allah ibn 'Utbah, from Abu Mas'ud al-Ansari, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to Quraysh: "This matter will continue to be among you, and you will be its guardians, until you commit deeds. When you do that, Allah will empower over you the worst of His creation, and they will strip you as a rod is stripped."
