Musnad Ahmad 980:23

Abu Nu'aym narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Habib ibn Abi Thabit, from al-Qasim ibn al-Harith, from Abdullah ibn Utbah, from Abu Mas'ud, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to Quraysh: "This matter will continue to be among you, and you will be its governors, as long as you do not commit new [evil] things. If you do that, Allah will empower over you the worst of His creation, and they will peel you as a rod is peeled."
