Musnad Ahmad 788:152

Isma'il narrated to us, from Yunus, from al-Hasan, that Usayd ibn al-Mutashammis said: We came with Abu Musa from Isfahan and we hurried, and 'Aqilah came. Abu Musa said: "Is there no young man who will help her dismount?" He meant the mother of the Ash'ari. I said: "Yes." So I brought her close to a tree and helped her dismount, then I came and sat with the people. He said: "Shall I not tell you a hadith that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to tell us?" We said: "Yes, may Allah have mercy on you." He said: "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to tell us: 'Between the hands of the Hour is al-harj.'" It was said: "And what is al-harj?" He said: "Lying and killing." They said: "More than we kill now?" He said: "It is not the killing of the disbelievers, but rather it is the killing of some of you by others, until a man kills his neighbor, and kills his brother, and kills his uncle, and kills his cousin." They said: "Subhan Allah, and will we have our intellects?" He said: "No. Rather, the intellects of the people of that time will be snatched away, until one of you will think that he is upon something, while he is upon nothing." By the One in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, I fear that those matters will overtake me and you, and I do not find for myself or for you any way out of them regarding what our Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, entrusted to us, except that we exit from them as we entered them, without having introduced anything into them.
