Musnad Ahmad 788:158

Yahya ibn Sa'id narrated to us, 'Awf narrated to us, Qasamah ibn Zuhayr narrated to us, from Abu Musa, from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. And Hawdhah narrated it to us, 'Awf narrated to us, from Qasamah, who said: I heard al-Ash'ari say: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "Indeed, Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, created Adam from a handful He took from the entire earth. So the children of Adam came according to the [nature of the] earth. Among them came the red, the white, the black, and what is between that; the easy-going and the rough, and what is between that; and the wicked and the good, and what is between that."
