Musnad Ahmad 788:202

'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Isma'il ibn Abi Khalid, from his brother, from Abu Burdah, from Abu Musa, who said: Two men from the Ash'ari tribe came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. He said: They began to hint at [wanting] a position of authority. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Indeed, the most treacherous of you in my sight is the one who seeks it."
