Hadith of Abu Qatadah Al-Ansari (RA)

Hadith 1007:95

Surayj ibn al-Nu‘man narrated to us, Hushaym narrated to us, al-Husayn ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman informed us, ‘Abdullah ibn Abi Qatadah al-Ansari narrated to us, from his father, Abu Qatadah, who said: We traveled by night with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) on a journey. We said: "O Messenger of Allah, if only you would let us rest for a while." He said: "I fear that you will sleep through the prayer, so who will wake us for the prayer?" Bilal said: "I will, O Messenger of Allah." He said: So he let the people rest, and we lay down. Bilal leaned against his riding beast, but his eyes overcame him. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) awoke when the edge of the sun had risen. He said: "O Bilal, where is what you said to us?" I said: "O Messenger of Allah, by the One who sent you with the truth, I have never experienced sleep like it." The Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Indeed, Allah took your souls when He willed and returned them to you when He willed." Then he commanded them, so they dispersed for their needs and performed ablution. The sun rose high, and he led them in the dawn prayer.
