Hadith 1228:11
Abu Amir narrated to us, he said: Zuhayr narrated to us, from Abdullah ibn Muhammad, from Ali ibn al-Husayn, from Abu Rafi’, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), that when the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) would offer the sacrifice, he would buy two fat, horned, white-and-black rams. When he had prayed and addressed the people, he would bring one of them while he was standing in his prayer place and slaughter it himself with a knife. Then he would say: "O Allah, this is on behalf of all my Ummah, from those who testified to Your Oneness and testified to my delivery of the message." Then the other would be brought, and he would slaughter it himself and say: "This is on behalf of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad." He would feed both of them to the poor, and he and his family would eat from them. We remained for years, and there was not a man from the Banu Hashim who would offer a sacrifice, for Allah had sufficed them the burden and the expense through the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace).
