Hadith 1228:16
Khalaf ibn al-Walid narrated to us, he said: Abu Ja’far—meaning al-Razi—narrated to us, from Shurahbil, from Abu Rafi’, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), who said: A sheep was gifted to him, so he placed it in a pot. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) entered and said: "What is this, O Abu Rafi’?" He said: "A sheep was gifted to us, O Messenger of Allah, so I cooked it in the pot." He said: "Hand me the foreleg, O Abu Rafi’." So I handed him the foreleg. Then he said: "Hand me the other foreleg." So I handed him the other foreleg. Then he said: "Hand me the other foreleg." He said: "O Messenger of Allah, a sheep only has two forelegs." The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said to him: "Had you remained silent, you would have continued to hand me a foreleg after a foreleg as long as you remained silent." Then he called for water, rinsed his mouth, and washed the tips of his fingers. Then he stood and prayed. Then he returned to them and found cold meat with them, so he ate. Then he entered the mosque and prayed, and he did not touch water.
