Hadith of Abu Rafi‘ (RA)

Hadith 1111:4

Ya'qub narrated to us, my father narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, who said: Abdullah ibn Hasan narrated to me, from some of his family, from Abu Rafi', the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), who said: "We went out with Ali when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sent him with his banner. When he drew near to the fortress, its people came out to him and he fought them. A man from the Jews struck him, and his shield fell from his hand. So, Ali grabbed a door that was by the fortress and used it as a shield for himself. It remained in his hand while he was fighting, until Allah granted him victory. Then he threw it from his hand when he had finished. I have seen myself among a group of seven others, I being the eighth, struggling to turn that door over, but we could not turn it."
