Musnad Ahmad 1092:2

Hashim narrated to us, Uthman Abu Amr al-Batti narrated to us, from Abd al-Hamid ibn Salamah, that his grandfather accepted Islam during the time of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, while his grandmother did not accept Islam, and he had a son from her. They disputed before the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to them: "If you both wish, you may give the boy the choice." He said: He sat the father to one side and the mother to one side, and he gave him the choice. He went toward his mother. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "O Allah, guide him." He said: So he returned to his father.
