Hadith of Abu Shurayh al-Khuza'i (RA)

Hadith 308:7

Wahb ibn Jarir narrated to us, he said: My father narrated to me, he said: I heard Yunus narrating from al-Zuhri, from Muslim ibn Yazid, one of the Banu Sa'd ibn Bakr, that he heard Abu Shurayh al-Khuza'i, then al-Ka'bi—and he was one of the companions of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace)—saying: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) permitted us on the day of the Conquest to fight the Banu Bakr until we took our revenge upon them, while he was in Makkah. Then the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) ordered the sword to be lifted. The next day, a group of us encountered a man from Hudhayl in the Sacred Precinct (Haram) who was heading toward the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) to embrace Islam. He had previously wronged them during the Pre-Islamic Era (Jahiliyyah), and they were seeking him, so they killed him, hastening to do so before he could reach the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and be granted safety. When that reached the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), he became intensely angry—by Allah, I have never seen him angrier than that. We rushed to Abu Bakr, Umar, and Ali (may Allah be pleased with them) to intercede for us, fearing that we had perished. When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) prayed, he stood up and praised Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, as He deserves. Then he said: "To proceed: Verily, Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, made Makkah sacred, and people did not make it sacred. It was only made lawful for me for an hour of the day yesterday, and today it is sacred just as Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, made it sacred the first time. The most defiant of people against Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, are three: a man who kills within it, a man who kills someone other than his killer, and a man who seeks blood-vengeance from the Pre-Islamic Era. And I, by Allah, will pay the blood money for this man whom you killed." And the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) paid his blood money.
