Musnad Ahmad 307:11

'Abd al-Wahhab ibn 'Ata narrated to us, he said: Sa'id informed us, from Qatadah, from Anas ibn Malik, from Abu Talhah, that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, whenever he fought a people and defeated them, he would stay in the open courtyard for three days. And when it was the day of Badr, he ordered the chieftains of Quraysh, and they were thrown into a well among the wells of Badr, foul and stinking. He said: Then he went out to them, and we went out with him. Then he said: "O Abu Jahl ibn Hisham, O 'Utbah ibn Rabi'ah, O Shaybah ibn Rabi'ah, O Walid ibn 'Utbah, have you found what your Lord promised you to be true? For I have found what my Lord promised me to be true." 'Umar said: O Messenger of Allah, are you speaking to bodies that have no souls in them? He said: "By the One in whose hand is my soul, you are not more hearing to what I say than they are." Qatadah said: Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, brought them back to life so that they could hear his speech as a rebuke, a humiliation, and a belittlement. He said at the beginning of the hadith: When he finished with the people of Badr, he stayed in the open courtyard for three days.
