Musnad Ahmad 307:14

Rawh narrated to us, Sa’id narrated to us, from Qatadah, who said: It was mentioned to us by Anas ibn Malik, from Abu Talhah, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered on the day of Badr [the bodies of] twenty-four men from the chieftains of Quraysh, and they were cast into one of the wells of Badr, which was foul and filthy. It was his custom that when he overcame a people, he would stay in the open ground for three nights. When it was the third day at Badr, he ordered his riding camel, and its saddle was fastened upon it. Then he walked, and his companions followed him. They said, "We do not see him going except to relieve himself." Until he stood at the edge of the well and began calling them by their names and the names of their fathers: "O so-and-so, son of so-and-so, and O so-and-so, son of so-and-so! Would it please you if you had obeyed Allah and His Messenger? For we have found what our Lord promised us to be true, so have you found what your Lord promised you to be true?" Umar said, "O Messenger of Allah, you are speaking to bodies that have no souls." He replied, "By Him in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, you are not more hearing of what I say than they are." Qatadah said: Allah brought them to life so that He could make them hear his words as a rebuke, a belittlement, a degradation, and a source of regret and remorse.
