Musnad Ahmad 538:11

Zakariya ibn ‘Adi narrated to us, he said: Baqiyyah informed us, from Buhayr ibn Sa‘d, from Khalid ibn Ma‘dan, from Jubayr ibn Nufayr, from Abu Tha‘labah al-Khushani, that he narrated to them, he said: I went on a military expedition with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, to Khaybar, and the people were hungry. We obtained there some donkeys from the domestic donkeys, so we slaughtered them. He said: The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was informed, so he ordered ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn ‘Awf, and he called out among the people: "Indeed, the meat of domestic donkeys is not lawful for anyone who testifies that I am the Messenger of Allah." He said: And we found onions and garlic in their gardens, and the people were hungry, so they ate greedily, then they went [to the mosque]. Then the smell of the mosque was [that of] onions and garlic. So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Whoever eats from this foul plant, let him not approach us." And he said: "Plunder is not lawful, and every beast of prey with a fang is not lawful, and the *mujaththamah* (animal used for target practice) is not lawful."
