Musnad Ahmad 538:3

Yazid narrated to us, Hajjaj ibn Artah narrated to us, from Makhul, from Abu Thalaba al-Khushani, who said: I said, "O Messenger of Allah, we are a people of hunting." He said: "If you send your dog and mention the name of Allah, and it catches [the game] for you, then eat." I said: "Even if it kills it?" He said: "Even if it kills it." I said: "We are a people of archery." He said: "Whatever your bow brings back for you, then eat." I said: "We are a people of travel; we pass by the Jews, the Christians, and the Magians, and we find nothing but their vessels." He said: "If you do not find any others, wash them with water, then eat and drink from them."
