Musnad Ahmad 538:7

'Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, Ma'mar narrated to us, from Ayyub, from Abu Qilabah, from Abu Tha'labah al-Khushani, who said: I came to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and said: "O Messenger of Allah, write for me [a grant of] such and such land" — for a land in the Levant that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, had not yet conquered at that time. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Do you not hear what this man is saying?" Abu Tha'labah said: "By the One in Whose hand is my soul, you will surely conquer it." He said: So he wrote it for him. He said: I said to him: "O Messenger of Allah, our land is a land of hunting, so may I send my trained dog, and my dog that is not trained?" He said: "If you send your trained dog and mention the name of Allah, then eat what your trained dog catches for you, even if it killed it. And if you send your dog that is not trained and you catch it [the game] and slaughter it, then eat. And eat what your arrow brings back to you, even if it killed it, and mention the name of Allah." He said: I said: "O Prophet of Allah, our land is a land of the People of the Book, and they eat swine flesh and drink wine, so what should I do regarding their vessels and their cooking pots?" He said: "If you do not find others, then wash them and cook in them, and drink [from them]." He said: I said: "O Messenger of Allah, what is lawful for us of that which is forbidden to us?" He said: "Do not eat the meat of domesticated donkeys, nor any beast of prey that has fangs."
