Musnad Ahmad 11:11

Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us, Hisham informed us, from Wasil, from al-Walid ibn Abd al-Rahman, from Iyad ibn Ghutayf, who said: We entered upon Abu Ubaydah to visit him. He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, say: "Whoever spends an expenditure that is surplus in the way of Allah, then it is [multiplied] by seven hundred. And whoever spends upon himself, or upon his family, or visits a sick person, or removes a harmful object from the road, then it is a good deed [multiplied] by ten times its like. And fasting is a shield as long as one does not tear it. And whoever Allah tests with a trial in his body, it is an expiation for him."
