Musnad Ahmad 11:7

Abu al-Mughirah narrated to us, Safwan ibn ‘Amr narrated to us, Abu Hasbah Muslim ibn Akis, the freed slave of ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amir, narrated to us, from Abu ‘Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah, who said: He mentioned that someone entered upon him and found him weeping. He said: "What makes you weep, O Abu ‘Ubaydah?" He replied: "I weep because the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) mentioned one day what Allah would open for the Muslims and what He would grant them as spoils, until he mentioned Syria. He said: 'If your life is prolonged, O Abu ‘Ubaydah, then three servants are sufficient for you: a servant to serve you, a servant to travel with you, and a servant to serve your family and return to them. And three beasts are sufficient for you: a beast for your saddle, a beast for your baggage, and a beast for your servant.' Then, here I am, looking at my house having become filled with slaves, and I look at my stable having become filled with beasts and horses. So how shall I meet the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) after this? For the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) advised us: 'Indeed, the most beloved of you to me and the closest of you to me is the one who meets me in the same state in which I parted from him.'"
