Musnad Ahmad 962:133

Aswad ibn Amir narrated to us, Sharik narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Sa’d al-Wasiti, from Abu Dhabyah, from Abu Umamah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Indeed, *al-maqah* is from Allah." Sharik said: It is love and reputation from the heaven. So when Allah loves a servant, He says to Jibril: "I love so-and-so, so Jibril calls out: 'Indeed, Allah loves so-and-so, so love him.'" I believe Sharik said: "So love descends for him upon the earth." And when He hates a servant, He says to Jibril: "I hate so-and-so, so hate him." He said: "So Jibril calls out: 'Indeed, your Lord hates so-and-so, so hate him.'" He said: I believe Sharik said: "So hatred flows for him upon the earth."
