Musnad Ahmad 962:156

Abu al-Mughirah narrated to us, Ma'an ibn Rifa'ah narrated to us, 'Ali ibn Yazid narrated to me, from al-Qasim Abu 'Abd al-Rahman, from Abu Umamah, who said: We sat with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and he reminded us and softened our hearts. Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas wept and wept excessively, then said: "I wish I had died." The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "O Sa'd, do you wish for death while you are with me?" He repeated that three times. Then he said: "O Sa'd, if you were created for Paradise, then the longer your life is, or the better your deeds are, it is better for you."
