Hadith of Abu ‘Uqbah (RA)

حديث أبي عقبة

Hadith 1005:0

Narrated to us by Abdullah, who said: Narrated to us by my father, who said: Narrated to us by Yahya ibn Ishaq, who said: Narrated to us by Ibn Lahi’ah, from Yazid ibn Abi Habib, from Abu al-Khayr, from Uqbah ibn Amir, that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Whoever performs ablution and performs it well, then prays two rak'ahs, focusing upon them with his heart and his face, Paradise will become mandatory for him." Uqbah said: I said, "How excellent this is!" Then someone behind me said, "The one before it was even better." I turned around and saw that it was Umar ibn al-Khattab. He said, "I saw that you came just now, and he said: 'There is no one among you who performs ablution and completes it—or perfects it—then says: *Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah wahdahu la sharika lah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasuluh* (I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and His messenger), except that the eight gates of Paradise will be opened for him, and he may enter through whichever of them he wishes.'"
