Hadith of Abu Uthman al-Nahdi, from Ubayy ibn Ka'b (RA)
حديث أبي عثمان النهدي، عن أبي بن كعب
Hadith 929:4
Muhammad ibn Ja‘far narrated to us, Shu‘bah narrated to us, from ‘Asim, who said: I heard Abu ‘Uthman narrating from Ubayy ibn Ka‘b, who said: There was a man who used to come to the prayer, and it was said to him: "If only you would acquire a donkey to protect you from the burning sand, the thorns, and the rugged ground." Shu‘bah said: And he mentioned a fourth thing, he said: "The rugged path." He said: "I would not like my tent-rope to be next to the tent-rope of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)." This was mentioned to the Prophet (ﷺ), and he said: "You shall have what you intended," or he said: "You shall have the reward of what you intended." Shu‘bah said this.
حدثنا محمد بن جعفر، حدثنا شعبة، عن عاصم، قال: سمعت أبا عثمان، يحدث عن أبي بن كعب، قال: كان رجل يأتي الصلاة، فقيل له: لو اتخذت حمارا يقيك الرمضاء والشوك والوقع، قال شعبة: وذكر رابعة، قال: محلوفة، ما أحب أن طنبي بطنب رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم. فذكر ذلك للنبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، فقال: "لك ما نويت " أو قال: "لك أجر ما نويت " شعبة يقول ذلك
