Musnad Ahmad 947:5

'Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, Ma'mar informed us, from al-Zuhri, from Sinan ibn Abi Sinan al-Du'ali, from Abu Waqid al-Laythi, who said: We went out with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, before Hunayn, and we passed by a lote tree. I said, "O Prophet of Allah, make for us a 'Dhat Anwat' (a tree to hang things on) just as the disbelievers have a 'Dhat Anwat'." The disbelievers used to hang their weapons on a lote tree and seclude themselves around it. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Allah is the Greatest! This is just as the Children of Israel said to Moses: 'Make for us a god just as they have gods' [Al-A'raf: 138]. You will surely follow the ways of those who came before you."
