Hadith 169:1
'Affan narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, he said: 'Ali ibn Zayd informed us, from al-Hasan, that al-Dahhak ibn Qays wrote to Qays ibn al-Haytham when Yazid ibn Mu'awiyah died: "Peace be upon you. To proceed: I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say: 'Indeed, before the Hour, there will be tribulations like pieces of the dark night, tribulations like pieces of smoke. In them, a man’s heart will die just as his body dies. A man will wake up a believer and go to sleep a disbeliever, and he will go to sleep a believer and wake up a disbeliever. People will sell their share [in the Hereafter] and their religion for a small portion of the world.' And indeed, Yazid ibn Mu'awiyah has died, and you are our brothers and our kin, so do not outpace us until we choose for ourselves."
حدثنا عفان، حدثنا حماد بن سلمة قال: أخبرنا علي بن زيد، عن الحسن، أن الضحاك بن قيس، كتب إلى قيس بن الهيثم حين مات يزيد بن معاوية: سلام عليك أما بعد، فإني سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول: " إن بين يدي الساعة، فتنا كقطع الليل المظلم، فتنا كقطع الدخان يموت، فيها قلب الرجل كما يموت بدنه يصبح الرجل مؤمنا، ويمسي كافرا، ويمسي مؤمنا، ويصبح كافرا، يبيع أقوام خلاقهم ودينهم بعرض من الدنيا "، وإن يزيد بن معاوية قد مات، وأنتم إخواننا، وأشقاؤنا فلا تسبقونا حتى نختار لأنفسنا . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
