Musnad Ahmad 774:10

Muhammad ibn Abi ‘Adi narrated to us, from Ibn ‘Awn, from Muhammad, from Ibn Hudhayfah, who said: I used to narrate a hadith from ‘Adi ibn Hatim, and I said: "This ‘Adi is in a district of Kufa, so if I were to go to him, I would be the one to hear it from him." So I went to him and said: "I used to narrate a hadith from you, and I wanted to be the one to hear it from you." He said: "When Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, sent the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, I fled from him until I was in the furthest land of the Muslims, bordering the Romans. I disliked the place I was in, to the point that I hated it more than I hated the place I had come from. I said: 'I will go to this man. By Allah, if he is truthful, I will hear from him, and if he is a liar, he will not harm me.'" He said: "So I went to him, and the people looked up at me and said: '‘Adi ibn Hatim! ‘Adi ibn Hatim!'" He said: "I think he said it three times." He said: "He said to me: 'O ‘Adi ibn Hatim, submit [to Islam] and you will be safe.'" I said: "I am a man of a religion." He said: "O ‘Adi ibn Hatim, submit and you will be safe." I said: "I am a man of a religion." He said it three times. He said: "I know your religion better than you do." I said: "You know my religion better than I do?" He said: "Yes." He said: "Do you not lead your people?" I said: "Yes." He said—and Muhammad mentioned the *Rakusiya* (a sect), he mentioned a word he sought to get right, then he left it—he said: "For it is not lawful in your religion to take the *Mirba’* (a quarter of the spoils of war)." He said: "When he said that, I humbled myself a little." He said: "And he said: 'I see that what prevents you [from Islam] is the poverty you see in those around me, and that the people are united against us. Do you know the place called Al-Hira?'" I said: "I have heard of it, but I have not been there." He said: "The time is near when a woman will travel from there without a protector until she circumambulates the Kaaba." (Yazid ibn Harun said: *Jiwar* [protection]. Yunus said from Hammad: *Jawaz* [passage]). Then he returned to the hadith of ‘Adi ibn Hatim: "And the treasures of Chosroes, son of Hormizd, will surely be opened." I said: "Chosroes, son of Hormizd?" He said: "Chosroes, son of Hormizd." I said: "Chosroes, son of Hormizd?" He said: "Chosroes, son of Hormizd," three times. "And the time is near when a man will seek someone to accept his charity from him, and he will not find anyone." He said: "I have already seen two: I have seen the woman traveling from Al-Hira without a protector until she circumambulates the Kaaba, and I was among the cavalry that raided—Yunus said from Hammad: 'raided'—the cities of Al-Mada'in. And by Allah, the third will surely happen, for it is the hadith of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, which he narrated to me."
