Musnad Ahmad 774:25

Mu'ammal narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from Ibrahim, from Hammam ibn al-Harith, from 'Adi ibn Hatim, who said: I said: "O Messenger of Allah, I send my trained dog?" He said: "If you send your trained dog and mention the name of Allah, and it catches [the game] for you, then eat." I said: "Even if it killed it?" He said: "Even if it killed it, as long as no other dog participated with it." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, and I shoot with the *mi'rad* (a blunt-headed arrow)?" He said: "What pierces, eat; and what strikes with its side and kills, do not eat."
