Musnad Ahmad 627:18

Muhammad ibn Ja‘far narrated to us, he said: Shu‘bah narrated to us, from Simak ibn Harb, he said: I heard Murri ibn Qatari, he said: I heard ‘Adi ibn Hatim, he said: I said: O Messenger of Allah, my father used to uphold family ties and do such and such. He said: "Your father desired a matter and he attained it," meaning fame. He said: I said: I am asking you about food that I do not leave except out of caution. He said: "Do not leave anything in which you have resembled Christianity." I said: I send my dog, and it catches the game, and I do not have with me what I can slaughter it with, so I slaughter it with a flint or a stick. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Cause the blood to flow with whatever you wish, and mention the name of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic."
