Musnad Ahmad 21:26

'Affan narrated to us, Abu 'Awanah narrated to us, 'Abd al-Malik ibn 'Umayr narrated to us, from 'Abdullah ibn al-Harith ibn Nawfal, from al-'Abbas ibn 'Abd al-Muttalib, who said: "O Messenger of Allah, have you benefited Abu Talib with anything? For he used to protect you and become angry for your sake." He said: "Yes, he is in a shallow part of the Fire. Were it not for that, he would have been in the lowest depth of the Fire."
