Musnad Ahmad 943:12

Yahya ibn Adam narrated to us, Abu Bakr ibn Ayyash narrated to us, from Asim ibn Abi al-Najud, from Shaqiq ibn Salamah, from Abdullah ibn Mas’ud, three hadiths. He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever seizes the property of a Muslim man without right shall meet Allah while He is angry with him." He said: Then al-Ash’ath ibn Qays came and said: "What is Abu Abd al-Rahman narrating to you?" He said: So we narrated it to him. He said: "Regarding this hadith, I disputed with a cousin of mine before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) over a well that belonged to me but was in his possession, and he denied it to me. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'Your evidence that it is your well, otherwise his oath.'" He said: I said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have no evidence, and if you make it his oath, my well will be gone, for my opponent is a wicked man." He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever seizes the property of a Muslim man without right shall meet Allah while He is angry with him." He said: And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) recited this verse: "Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allah..." [Al-Imran: 77].
