Musnad Ahmad 943:9

Bahz and ‘Affan narrated to us, they said: Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, ‘Aqil ibn Talhah narrated to me—‘Affan said in his narration: ‘Aqil ibn Talhah al-Sulami informed us—from Muslim ibn Haytham, from al-Ash’ath ibn Qays, that he said: I came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, in a delegation from Kindah. ‘Affan said: They did not see me as the best of them. He said: I said, "O Messenger of Allah, we claim that you are from us." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "We are the sons of al-Nadr ibn Kinanah; we do not disown our mother, nor do we renounce our father." He said: Al-Ash’ath said: "By Allah, I will not hear anyone deny that Quraysh are from al-Nadr ibn Kinanah except that I will lash him with the prescribed punishment."
